Have you been missing the Disney parks as much as I have with this COVID closure?
Even just planning Disney vacations brought me so much happiness and joy. I miss it so much.
To help ease the pain, I thought I would give a Disney DIY project I have seen floating around the internet a try: The Disney World MagicBand wreath!
In case you haven’t seen it, it is a homemade Mickey or Minnie Mouse head that you make from wreaths with the purpose of displaying your family’s MagicBands.
It looked pretty simple to make, so even though I could star in those Pinterest Fails shows I figured I’d give it a try and take you along with me.
Spoiler alert: it was easy and turned out great! (See above.)

Project Materials
One large wire wreath
Two small wire wreaths (Floral wire wreaths can be found at most any craft store)
5-yard spools of black ribbon – enough to cover all of your wreaths
1 spool of polka dot wire ribbon if you would like to make a Minnie Mouse wreath
Glue gun and glue sticks
Two black zip ties
Scissors
Tip: Make sure you buy enough ribbon to cover your entire wreath. I learned that the hard way. I ended up using about 5 spools of black ribbon to cover my 18in and two 12in wreaths.
Step 1: Wrap each individual wreath with the black ribbon
Supplies needed: wreaths, black ribbon, hot glue gun and glue sticks
While you could just leave the wire wreaths alone, I thought it would be a nice addition to wrap them with black ribbon. I choose to use sparkly black ribbon, but plan black would be just as good.
Start by putting a line of hot glue on one small area on the back of the wreath. Press the end of the black ribbon into the glue, holding it just long enough for it to hold and the glue to harden just a bit. Then you can simply start wrapping the ribbon around the wreath until it is fully covered.
When you come to the end of a ribbon, use the glue gun to glue the ending down and start your new ribbon spool.
Tip: Make sure to pull the ribbon tight. You will also want to overlap each section just slightly so there are no gaps.
Step 2: Attach the “Ears” to the “Head”
Supplies: ribbon covered wreaths, zip ties, scissors
Once all three wreaths are covered in black ribbon, it’s time to attach them together.
Position one of the smaller wreaths where you want it on the larger wreath for the first ear. Then simply attach them together using one of the zip ties.
Make sure you pull the zip tie so it closes in the back of the wreath. Then use the scissors to trip the end off.
Repeat for the other ear.
Step 3: Cover the Zip Tie with Ribbon
Supplies: attached wreaths, black ribbon, glue gun and glue sticks
Cut a piece of the black ribbon that’s long enough to cover the zip tie and attach in the back of the wreath.
Then simply wrap the ribbon around the front of the wreath over the zip tie, then glue it to the back of the wreath. Trim any excess ribbon.
Repeat on the other zip tie.
Step 4: Add Bow If Making Minnie
Supplies: attached wreaths, polka dot ribbon
If you want to make your wreath into a Minnie Mouse head, take your polka dot ribbon, tie it in a bow and attach it to the top of large wreath.
I will admit, I am not the best at making bows. You could probably purchase a made for you Minnie Mouse style bow and hot glue gun it to the top. That would be adorable.
I used wide, wire ribbon and just tied my own. Was it the best looking? Probably not. But it looks good enough and I was happy with it.
If you want something a little more polished looking, do a search on YouTube for instructions on how to make your own Minnie Mouse bow.
Step 5: Put on your MagicBands and Hang on the Wall
Now the easy part! Start arranging your MagicBands however you would like on the wreath. You can put them on the ears, on the head, both, whatever you want.
Then hang your finished wreath on the wall. I tied another piece of my black ribbon to the top of the wreath to hang my finished wreath onto my wall.
Then step back and admire your amazing work!
Another Idea
As I pulled out all my family’s MagicBands from my Disney Parks souvenir treasure box, I had an idea of a similar thing to make to display all the Park Button’s we’ve collected as well.
Instead of using a wire wreath for that one, I would use foam instead. It would be quite easy to stick the buttons into the foam so you can arrange them nicely.
The foam wreaths are also sold in various sizes at any craft store, usually in the floral section. When I give this a try, I’ll post the results.
